Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park is located 20 miles northwest of Hopkinsville in Dawson Springs, Kentucky. This park is surrounded by over 800 acres of beautiful woods and is named for the tiny Pennyroyal plant that is found in this area.
The rustic stone and wood Pennyrile Lodge offers 24 rooms and sits on a high cliff overlooking the Pennyrile Lake. The gift shop offers an array of Kentucky handcrafts and other souvenir items. The 200-seat dining room serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a beautiful view of the lake. The pool is available for use of lodge and cottage guests only. Thirteen cottages are located on the shores of the lake and have many unique features. They have wooded or lake views and offer amenities like private boat and fishing docks, fireplaces, and screened porches. Cooking utensils, tableware and daily fresh linens are also provided. The 68-site campground is located in the Pennyrile Forest and offers utility hookups, a garbage dumping station, and a central service building with showers, rest rooms, and laundry facilities. The campground is open between March 1 and October 31. Meeting rooms are also available next to the lodge and can accommodate groups up to 100 for conferences or banquets.
The park has a 9-hole regulation golf course and pro shop with cart and club rentals and an 18-hole miniature golf available to visitors as well. Near the boat dock, rentals are available for pedal boats, canoes, rowboats, and trolling motors. Larger motorboats are restricted from Pennyrile Lake. Bluegill, largemouth bass, crappie and channel catfish can be found in Pennyrile Lake. Lake Beshear, which is only 4 miles from the lodge, offers fishing as well as larger motorboats.
The beach is adjacent to the boat dock and is on the edge of Pennyrile Lake. There are seven nature trails for hikers to explore and photograph that loop around the lake. They are each rated from easy to difficult according to hiking ability. Athletic courts including shuffleboard and tennis are available. Overnight guests are eligible to borrow the necessary equipment for these as well. Picnic shelters, grills, tables, and playgrounds are located throughout the park and shelters may also be rented in advance.
