Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park is located about 85 miles southwest of Somerset, Kentucky near the Tennessee border. This posh resort was opened in 1997 and features a 28,000 acre lake and 3,400 acres of unspoiled wilderness to explore.
Visitors may stay at the 60-room Mary Ray Oaken Lodge that is positioned atop a 300-foot cliff that overlooks one of the widest points of Dale Hollow Lake. It features a gift shop, game room, dining room and a lobby gathering area. A 3-story addition was completed in April of 2000 and contains half of the Lodges rooms. Each of these rooms offers a rear balcony that looks out into the forest and the front decks overlook a state-of the-art playground. Data ports are available in each of the newer rooms. The addition is also compliant with the Americans Disabilities Act. A pool in front of the guest wing of the Lodge is reserved for Lodge guests only.
The dramatic two-story dining area has walls of glass on three sides. Exposed steel and wood trusses in the vaulted ceiling complement its massive 37-foot tall stone fireplace. An outdoor dining patio is also available. The menu includes regional Kentucky foods prepared with home-cooked flavor as well as international cuisine. The dining room seats 150 and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Part of the dining room may be sectioned off to seat a party of up to 40 guests. A 60-seat meeting room is also available.
The 144-site campground also offers 24 sites set aside for campers with horses. For convenience to campers, utility hookups are available as are restrooms and showers in a central service building. There is a pool within the campground and garbage collection points are also nearby.
The park has a marina with 36 open slips, 15 buoys and overnight tie-ups, a marina shop, pontoon boat rentals, and a boat-launching ramp. Water sports at the park include water-skiing, swimming, fishing, spear fishing, and scuba diving. Pontoon boats can be rented by the day and souvenir items can be purchased at the marina shop.
Dale Hollow Lake is known for is abundance of fish and is one of the top fishing spots in the country. It offers five species of bass - largemouth, smallmouth, white, Kentucky and rock. In addition it has bream, catfish, crappie, muskie, trout, and walleye.
Other activities include 13.4 miles of nature trails, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, picnicking and the playgrounds.
