Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park is located 25 miles northwest of Hazard, Kentucky and 124 miles southeast of Lexington, Kentucky. This park boasts 856-acres of scenic and unspoiled natural beauty. It is minutes away from the Daniel Boone Parkway and lies on the northern edge of the Daniel Boone National Forest. From I-75 north, take the I-64 east exit, and then exit at the Mountain Parkway. Exit at Campton, and then take KY 15 South to KY 28 West. From I-75 south, exit at the Daniel Boone Parkway, then exit to KY 15 north and finally to KY 28 west. From I-64 east or west, exit at the Mountain Parkway then exit at Campton and take KY 15 to KY 28 west. From KY 28 west, turn onto KY 1833 and follow it to the park entrance.

Buckhorn Lodge offers a relaxing atmosphere with copper-hooded fireplaces and beautiful mountain views from the veranda. Its 36 rooms feature private patios or balconies with views of the mountains or the lake. The gift shop has many Kentucky handcrafts and souvenir items for sale. The 210-seat dining room serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There are also two private dining rooms that seat up to 40 people each. The lodge offers a swimming pool exclusively to its overnight guests.

Two 2-bedroom cottages and one 3-bedroom cottage offer more private accommodations. Cottages guests are provided with cooking utensils, tableware, and fresh daily linens.

The 95-slip marina has 2 boat-launch ramps into Buckhorn Lake and offers rentals of pontoon boats and fishing boats. The marina is open between April and October. Fishing is allowed in the lake as well. Largemouth bass, Kentucky bass, bluegill, crappie, channel catfish, and muskie call Buckhorn Lake their home. A public beach and bathhouse complex is available to all park guests and it is open between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Other activities include tennis, horseshoes, sandpit volleyball, shuffleboard, and an 18-hole miniature golf course that is open between April 1 and October 31. As a convenience, overnight guests may check out equipment for these activities. Hikers may explore 1.5 miles of self-guided trails and walking trails. Mountain hiking opportunities abound as well. Daily activities in the summer are available under the guidance of a trained recreational director for children and adults. Various special events are planned throughout the year as well.

Other nearby state parks include Natural Bridge State Resort Park and Carr Creek State Park. Natural Bridge is 71 miles northwest of Buckhorn Lake off the Mountain Parkway. Carr Creek is 39 miles southeast of Buckhorn Lake on KY 15 south.
