Barren River Lake State Resort Park is about 2,187 acres and is located near Kentucky's famous cave area. It is 44 miles east of Bowling Green, Kentucky. You can reach it by taking I-65 to the Cumberland Parkway East, then traveling to US 31 E South.
The 51-room Louie B. Nunn Lodge overlooks the beautiful 10,000-acre lake and offers many amenities. The gift shop has a wide array of Kentucky handcrafts and souvenir items. The 146-seat dining room serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A variety of meeting facilities are available for large or small groups. Two private dining rooms are available that seat 32 guests and 20 guests. The executive conference room seats 20 people while the large meeting room seats 75 people. The banquet room can accommodate 224-400 people. A swimming pool is located near the lodge and is for the exclusive use of lodge and cottage guests.
The park's 22 cottages offer contemporary styling. Each cottage has a lovely view of the lake as well as two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Cooking utensils, tableware, and fresh daily linens are also provided. The 99-site campground offers utility hookups, a garbage dumping station, and two central service buildings with showers and rest rooms.
The park marina has 100 open slips, 40 covered slips, and a launching ramp. It also offers rentals of houseboats, pontoon boats, and fishing boats. Barren River Lake offers an abundance of largemouth bass, bluegill, white bass, crappie, hybrid striped bass, channel catfish, and rough fish. There is also a public beach with a bathhouse complex. The beach is open between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Hikers will enjoy the four miles of wooded nature trails. Golfers will enjoy the 18-hole regulation golf course that offers a fully equipped pro shop with rental clubs and carts. The park has horse stables that are open between Memorial Day and Labor Day and also offers guided trail rides. A lighted basketball court and two lighted tennis courts are also located at the park along with a shuffleboard court and volleyball courts. There are two picnic shelters with rest rooms located near the park's main entrance, and they are available for rental. Picnic tables and grills are also available. Playgrounds can be found in the lodge, cottage, and camping areas. Special events like the Classic Car Show in May, The Glasgow Highland Games the weekend after Memorial Day, and the '50s & '60s Night in July are among the many other activities that park visitors may enjoy.
