One of the most common symptoms of many types of cancer is any unusual bleeding or discharges. For example, an unusual discharge from the nipple can be a sign of breast cancer and bleeding from the anus or blood in the stool can be a symptom of colorectal cancer. One of the better known symptoms that is visible only in a small number of cancers is a lump. A lump in the breast is a strong indication of breast cancer, and a lump in the testicle is a symptom of testicular cancer. It is recommended that women do monthly breast self-exams and men do monthly testicular self-exams to check for the presence of anomalies in these areas. Other symptoms that are not specific to cancer but that are seen in many cases include unexplained weight loss and unexplained fatigue.
