Have you had these symptoms in the past year?
A common condition characterized by the repeated involuntary spasmodic contractions of the diaphragm, followed by sudden closure of the glottis, which checks the inflow of air and produces the characteristic sounds.

Sound scary? Dangerous? Complicated? Not really. It's just the hiccups.

While mild hiccups are most often a reaction to common digestive disturbances,
at times people hiccup for no apparent reason. But how do you get rid of this sometimes annoying condition?

Here is a little known cure for the hiccups that works about 90% of the time. It requires you to drink water while plugging your ears. It works best at a drinking fountain that you can activate with something other than your hands(a friend is most useful). Plugging both ears with your fingers, drink as much water as you can without breathing. Swallow and unplug your ears-- and your hiccups should be gone. If you don't have a drinking fountain or a friend nearby, you can still use this technique. Simply get the water in your mouth with the aid of your hands, but don't swallow. Then, while the water is still in your mouth, plug your ears and swallow.

Note: If you experience chronic hiccups, or hiccups that last more than a few hours, speak to your doctor. Chronic or consistent hiccups can be a sign of a more serious medical problem.
