When you're trying to determine what type of plants you should get for your home, you first should consider what type of care you can provide for your plants. You need to determine how much and how frequently you want to water plants and how much sunlight you can provide for them. And believe it or not, it also makes a difference from what direction the light comes from. Certain plants do better with light from the north than from the south. Here are some different types of plants, how much care they require and what types of sunlight they need.

Plants needing light from the East and West
• Begonia Rex Soil should always be moist
• Boston Fern Water thoroughly. Never let it dry out
• Grape Ivy Soil should always be moist
• Rosary Vine Water thoroughly. Let it dry out before watering again
• African Violet Water thoroughly. Never let it dry out
• Lady Palm Water thoroughly. Never let it dry
• Norfolk Island Pine Soil should always be moist
• Weeping fig Water thoroughly. Never let it dry

Plants needing light from the North
• Prayer plant Soil should always be moist
• Spathe Flower Soil should always be moist
• Bird's Nest Fern Soil should always be moist
• Fig Soil should always be moist
• Sago plant Water thoroughly. Never let it dry
• Velvet leaf philodendron Water thoroughly. Never let it dry

Plants needing light from the South
• Cactus Water thoroughly. Let it dry out before watering again
• Geranium Water thoroughly. Never let it dry
• Jade plant Water thoroughly. Never let it dry
• Ivy Soil should always be moist
• Passion flower Soil should always be moist
• Begonia Soil should always be moist
• Pomegranate Soil should always be moist
• Aloe Water thoroughly. Let it dry out before watering again
