Arroz con gandulez is a Puerto Rican recipe for rice and beans. The following recipe makes enough for twelve people. A food shopping list is given for your convenience.

Food List:

1-3 lbs of sausage (cut in 1" pieces)
1 lb of pork (chopped)
sofrito
recalito
sazon
jamon
garlic powder
onion powder
oregano
2 cans of green pigeon beans (gandulez)
long grain rice
oil or lard

In a large pot, brown the cut meat with 3 tbs of sofrito and recalito, 2 packages of sazon and 1 package of jamon.

Sprinkle a little garlic powder, onion powder and oregano over the meat.

When the meat is brown, cover it with water, cover and simmer for about one and a half hours.

After, add one more package each of sazon and jamon. Open and add both cans of beans.

Then add six cups of rice. Cover with water and a little oil or a tablespoon of lard.

Cook on high until it boils. Then cover and let simmer for about 20 minutes. Turn it over once and cover again until it is finished.
