Ingredients
1/2 cup butter
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 tsp vanilla
1 cup all purpose flour
2 pkgs (8 oz each) cream cheese, softened
2/3 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
4 cups thinly sliced peeled apple
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 cup walnuts
2 cups heavy cream, whipped

Directions for the Crust
Cream margarine and 1/3 cup sugar in large bowl of electric mixer at high speed until fluffy. Blend in 1/4 teaspoon vanilla; add flour, mixing well. Spread onto bottom of 8-inch springform pan.

Bake in hot oven (400 degrees) 5 minutes or until lightly brown. Cool slightly.

Directions for the Filling
Combine cream cheese and 1/3 cup sugar in large bowl of electric mixer at high speed until fluffy. Blend in eggs and 1 tsp vanilla. Pour into pastry-lined pan. Toss apples with sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Spoon over cream cheese mixture. Sprinkle with nuts.

Bake in hot oven (450 degrees) 10 minutes. Lower temperature to 400 degrees and continue baking 30 minutes. Using a spatula, loosen cake from side of pan. Cool in pan on wire rack. When completely cooled (4 to 5 hours), remove side of pan. Garnish with apple slices and whipped cream rosettes.
